How to use PresentSync
Follow these steps to set up your first presentation session. You'll need at least two iPads — one for you (the presenter) and one for each client.
What you need
📡 Master iPad (yours)
Your presenting iPad. Requires a PresentSync subscription. This is the device your clients will see.
📱 Slave iPads (clients)
Client iPads that display your screen. Always free — no subscription needed. Just download and join.
💡 Best for reliability: A cellular iPad as the Master with Personal Hotspot enabled. Clients connect to the hotspot once and auto-join every future session — no venue Wi-Fi needed.
First time setup (one off)
1
Install PresentSync on all iPads
Download PresentSync from the App Store on every iPad — both the Master and all client Slave iPads. The app is free to download on all devices.
2
Enable Wi-Fi on all iPads
PresentSync uses Apple peer-to-peer Wi-Fi to connect devices. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on in Settings on every iPad — you don't need to be connected to a network, just have the radio on.
For best results: On your Master iPad go to Settings → Personal Hotspot and turn it on. Then on each Slave iPad go to Settings → Wi-Fi and connect to your Master's hotspot. Once connected, Slave iPads will auto-join every future session automatically.
3
Grant screen recording permission
The first time you start a broadcast, iOS will ask for screen recording permission. Tap Allow. This is a one-time prompt — it won't ask again.
Starting a presentation session
1
Open PresentSync on all iPads
Open the app on both your Master iPad and all client Slave iPads at the same time.
2
Choose your role
On your iPad tap Master. On each client iPad tap Slave. The Master dashboard will appear on your screen showing a 4-digit Session PIN.
3
Share the PIN with your clients
Tell your clients the 4-digit PIN shown on your Master dashboard. They enter it on their Slave iPads to join your session. A new PIN is generated for every session.
4
Confirm clients are connected
Your Master dashboard shows connected clients under Connected. Wait until all your clients appear before starting the broadcast.
5
Start broadcasting
Tap Start Broadcast at the bottom of the Master dashboard. A system picker will appear — select PresentSyncBroadcast from the list and tap Start Broadcast. Your screen will now mirror to all connected client iPads in real time.
⚠️ Before you start: Enable Do Not Disturb to prevent notifications appearing on your clients' screens during the presentation. Swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPad and tap the Focus icon.
During your presentation
Switch apps freely
You can open any app, go to the home screen, or navigate anywhere on your iPad. Clients continue seeing your screen uninterrupted.
Pause and resume
Tap Pause on the Master dashboard to temporarily freeze the client screens — useful when you need to check notes privately. Tap Resume when ready. You can also pause and resume from Control Centre without opening the app.
Client screen orientation
If a client's screen appears rotated, they can double-tap their screen to rotate 90°. A long press toggles between fill and fit mode. Their preference is saved automatically.
Stop broadcasting
Tap Stop Broadcast on the Master dashboard, or swipe down from the top-right to open Control Centre and tap the red recording indicator.

Frequently asked questions

Getting started

Do I need an internet connection to use PresentSync?
No. PresentSync works fully offline using Apple peer-to-peer Wi-Fi technology. Both the presenter and client iPads simply need Wi-Fi turned on — no network or internet connection is required. It works in any room, anywhere in the world.
How many client iPads can I connect?
This depends on your subscription tier — from 1 client iPad (Free tier) up to 16 (Business Plus). Client iPads are always free to download and join a session.
What content can I share?
Anything visible on your screen — PowerPoint, Keynote, PDF, video, websites, or any app. PresentSync mirrors your screen directly so there is no need to convert or prepare files in advance.
Does PresentSync work with videos and animations?
Yes. PresentSync streams your screen as live video so animations, transitions, and video content all mirror to client iPads in real time.

Setup and connections

How do I get the most reliable connection?
Enable Personal Hotspot on the presenter's iPad (requires a cellular iPad model) and connect all client iPads to it before opening PresentSync. Client iPads will auto-join on future sessions once connected once. This gives instant, rock-solid connections with no dependency on the venue's Wi-Fi.
Why does the broadcast picker appear when I tap Start Broadcast?
This is standard iOS behaviour for screen broadcasting. When the picker appears, select PresentSyncBroadcast from the list and tap Start Broadcast. You will be asked to grant screen recording permission once — after that it starts automatically.
Can I pause the presentation without disconnecting clients?
Yes. Tap the Pause button on the Master dashboard or use the PresentSync Control Centre widget to pause and resume without ending the session. Clients see a paused overlay and reconnect to the live stream instantly when you resume.
What is the session PIN?
When you start a session as Master, a 4-digit PIN is displayed on your screen. Share this PIN with your clients — they enter it on their Slave iPads to join your session. A new PIN is generated for every session, so each meeting is secure.

Troubleshooting

Client iPads aren't connecting or are taking a long time.
Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on (not necessarily connected to a network) on all iPads. Keep devices within a few metres of each other during the initial connection. If issues persist, use the Personal Hotspot method described above for guaranteed reliability.
The stream looks blurry on client iPads.
PresentSync compresses the stream to maintain low latency. For the clearest image, ensure both iPads have Wi-Fi turned on so they use the faster peer-to-peer Wi-Fi transport rather than Bluetooth fallback.
The slave screen appears rotated or not filling the screen.
Double-tap the slave screen to rotate the display 90°. Long-press to toggle between fill and fit mode. Both preferences are saved automatically so you only need to adjust once per device combination.
Can streaming apps like Netflix be shared?
No. DRM-protected content from Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and similar services is automatically blocked by iOS at the screen recording level. This is an iOS security requirement and applies to all screen mirroring solutions. PresentSync works with all non-DRM content including PowerPoint, Keynote, PDFs, websites, and your own apps.
The device is getting warm during long presentations.
PresentSync automatically reduces stream quality when your device's temperature rises to protect performance. This is normal during extended sessions. If you notice significant quality reduction, take a short break and allow the device to cool.

Subscriptions and billing

How do subscriptions work?
Subscriptions are per presenter iPad — each iPad used as a Master requires its own subscription. Client iPads are always free. Subscriptions are managed through the App Store and can be cancelled at any time from your Apple ID settings.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. The free tier includes one client iPad permanently. On first launch, all new users also get a full 30-day Team tier trial (4 client iPads) so you can experience the full product before subscribing.
How do I restore a previous purchase?
Open PresentSync, tap Master to enter the dashboard, then tap the Restore Purchases option in the subscription/upgrade screen. Your previous subscription will be restored automatically using your Apple ID.
Can I upgrade or downgrade my subscription?
Yes — manage your subscription directly through your Apple ID settings or the App Store. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period.
